Birds and Berries #1: Cedar waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum) and red mulberry (Morus rubra)

The Cedar Waxwing is one of the few North American birds that specializes in eating fruit. They visit Florida in the non-breeding (winter) season and can easily be attracted to backyards by planting native fruit. This painting was inspired by watching a flock of waxwings enjoy a berry feast in my friend’s red mulberry trees this spring.
